Automotive class

MEXICO — Region 9 Adult Education still has openings in the Basic Automotive class scheduled to start on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The four-week course will cover the basic maintenance of a vehicle. Cost of the class is $35 with supplies available from the instructor. Call Sally at 364-2012 to sign up.

Chamber events

RUMFORD — The River Valley Chamber of Commerce will present Birdie Googins, aka The Marden’s Lady, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at the Rumford Falls Auditorium, Rumford Town Hall. The doors will open at 5 p.m. Cost is $12 each person.

The chamber will also present The Maine Hysterical Society at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Mountain Valley High School Muskie Auditorium. Doors will open at 4 p.m. The cost is $15 each person.

Girl scouts

PERU — Girl Scouts of Maine will host a parent information and registration meeting
at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Dirigo Elementary School.

Bottle drive

MEXICO — A bottle drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, to help the Le Paresseux Snowshoe Club runners
raise money to attend The International Championship in
Lachine Quebec. Bottles may also be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday at
Port to Port, Waldo Street; at the Dixfield Town Garage, Lower
Main Street; or from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday at Courtesy Cab, Main Street. For more information, contact

Snowmobile club

RUMFORD — Due to the holidays, the December meetings of Rumford
Polar Bears Snowmobile Club will be on Thursday, Dec. 3 and 17. The
Dec. 3 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the home of Bob and Louise
Stickney, 256 Porter Ave. The Dec. 17 meeting will take place at 7 p.m.
at Sam’s Restaurant, Route 2.

Cribbage

DIXFIELD — The American Legion Thursday night cribbage games will start
playing partners on Thursday, Dec. 3. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and games
start at 6 p.m.

DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Town Office will send a care package to
soldiers
in the 82nd Infantry in Afghanistan. The package of goodies will be
disbursed by the
Chaplain to soldiers who are fighting in the outposts, away from
base camp. Items needed are things they can easily throw
into their backpacks such as trail mix, shaving cream, shampoo,
deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, body wash, nuts or hard candy.

Christmas cards with a short note are also welcome. Contributions
may be dropped off at the Dixfield Town Office by Friday, Dec. 4.

Christmas fair

DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Congregational Church, the Church on the Hill, will have
its annual Christmas Fair on Saturday, Dec, 5, starting at 9 a.m. with coffee
and donuts. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. Tables will include
raffles, handmade crafts, baked goods, greens, candy, Christmas
cookies and the men’s table with a wheel of cheese. Bags may be filled with items from the white elephant table for $3. For
