NEW GLOUCESTER — Jeannine Lauber, author of the newly released “Chosen Faith, Chosen Land: The Untold Story of America’s 21st Century Shakers” will sign copies of her rare book during the Christmas fair at the Shaker Village on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Lauber is a nationally recognized multiple
Emmy-wining broadcast journalist who has spent more than two decades
covering the news. Although best known for her work as a prime-time anchor, her
passion is long form investigative reporting, for which she was honored with the
Edward R. Murrow Award in 2000. “Chosen Faith, Chosen Land” centers on interviews with the Shakers and features hundreds of photographs of the members of the Shaker community, the village and the
grounds.

Over a 15-year period, Lauber was granted exclusive, unprecedented access to the private lives of the last remaining Shakers living at Sabbathday Lake. In this book, which includes extensive proprietary Shaker quotations, Lauber pierces many of the misconceptions and myths about the religion — most notably that all Shakers are dead — and she offers a modern-day view of their faith and surrounding community. The book is as much about founder Mother Ann Lee as it is about the significance of modern Shaker religion as it relates to today’s Christian Church.

Photojournalist Jeff Toorish is a corporate and studio photographer. His work has also been featured in leading travel and adventure magazines. Besides being Lauber’s photographer, he is a former co-anchor and a longtime friend. He lives with his family in Yarmouth.

The book signing will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Shaker Village is on Route
26.
