Girls’ Basketball
Coach: Reggie Weston (third year)
Last year’s record: 13-7, lost in Western C quarterfinals
Returning letter winners: Seniors – Jane Hebert (5-6 guard), Ricki Sinclair (5-6 guard), Tricia Turner (5-5 guard), Morgan Hutchins (5-8 forward), Junior – Hannah Knight (5-7 guard/forward), Brooke Kersey (5-7 forward); Sophomores – Paige Murphy (5-4 guard), Miranda Shurtleff (5-7 forward), Erin Turner (5-5 guard), Alyssa Wade (5-7 guard/forward).
Key losses: Kristen Harvey (guard).
Promising newcomers: Sophomore – Angela Ronan (5-11 forward).
Outlook: The Cougars return almost all of last year’s squad including Hebert (10.5 ppg), an All-MVC pick. Dirigo was a young exciting team to watch last year but might have been a step away. The Cougars have a little more seasoning and have plenty of talent and experience now to be a threat in the MVC. In addition to Hebert, Sinclair, Turner and Hutcins are four-year players while Knight and Kersey are three-year players. Ronan shold bolster the post after recovering from an injury in the offseason. Expect Dirigo to continue to play stingy and aggressive defensively.
Coach’s comment:  “We feel if we play smart and continue to work hard that we should do well. What we lack in height we more than make up for with heart, desire and aggressiveness.” – Coach Reggie Weston
