Girls’ Basketball
Coach: Tammy Anderson (sixth year)
Last year’s record: 9-10, lost in Eastern A preliminary
Returning letter winners: Juniors – Courtney Anderson (5-5 guard), Abbey Randall (5-4 guard); Sophomores – Adrianna Newton (5-9 forward), Amanda Johnson (5-9 foward), Sarah Frost (5-7 guard/forward).
Key losses: Dominique Herman (guard), Hannah Whitaker (forward).
Promising newcomers: Senior – Danielle Brewer (5-5 guard/forward); Sophomore – Alana Pulkkinen (5-11 forward); Freshmen – Kristen Anderson (5-7 guard), Mariah Treadwell (5-4 guard), Jenna Cote (5-7 forward), Desiree Tweedie (5-4 guard).
Outlook: The Hornets went from one win two years ago to nine and a tourney berth last year. Leavitt expects to feed off that momentum in Western B this year. Anderson (15.2 ppg) and Newton (10.7 rpg) were All-KVAC picks last year. Randall is also a three-year starter while Jordan came off the bench as a freshman to bolster the post.
Coach’s comment: “The team is coming off its most successful season ever while in Class A. This year, we’ve changed to KVAC B and will be looking to try and build upon the success that was started last season. We’ll be young but many of the players have a lot of varsity playing experience. The in-coming players have had success at the younger level and are excited for the upcoming season.” – Coach Tammy Anderson
