Girls’ Basketball
Coach: Rick Amero (14th year)
Last year’s record: 2-16
Returning letter winners: Senior – Courtney McFarren (5-3 guard); Junior – Kelsie Hilton (5-4 guard); Sophomores – Emily Benoit (5-3 guard), Kristine Kahl (5-10 forward), Molly Menice (5-3 guard), Colby Wilson (5-2 guard).
Key losses: Erika Ducharme (guard), Alyssa Morin (forward), Bethany Neal (forward).
Promising newcomers: Juniors –  Kristi Hilton (5-4 guard), Hillary Jean (5-8 forward); Sophomores – Angie Bechard (5-5 forward), Nicole Nugent (5-3 guard); Freshmen – Melissa Brasard (5-6 guard), Danielle Bumann (5-3 guard), Daisi Poole (5-3 guard/forward), Sierra Spencer (5-6 guard/forward).
Outlook: The Mustangs graduated three veteran players, including Morin and Neal, the team’s two top scorers and rebounds. That leaves Monmouth with a very young and small squad. Still, the Mustangs have some athletes and a lot of hustle. Monmouth will be one of the youngers teams in the MVC but could also be one of the scrappiest. Expect the Mustangs to make great strides as the season progresses.
Coach’s comment: “This season promises to be an exciting one. We are young, but we have a group of players who really enjoy playing basketball and are willing to put forth the effort to get to the next level.”
