Girls’ Basketball
Coach: Doug Lisherness (24th year)
Last year’s record: 14-7, lost in Western C semifinal
Returning letter winners: Seniors – Kylie Rolbiecki (5-4 guard), Mikayla Burbank (5-7 guard), Heather Campbell (5-6 forward), Amanda Richards (5-5 guard); Juniors – Colleen Shields (5-8 forward), Danielle Smith (5-6 guard); Sophmores – Samantha Werzanski (5-5 guard)
Key losses: Kenni Norton (guard), Macy Ryan (center), Nicole Eisenhaur (guard)
Promising newcomers: Freshmen – Annie Dexter (5-11 center), Mykayla Luce (5-5 guard), Jill Howard (5-7 forward), Taylor Henderson (5-4 guard), Tori Beane (5-6 guard), Lyndsay Beane (5-5 guard), Miranda Smith (5-8 center).
Outlook: The Roadrunners graduated Norton, an All-MVC player, but still expected the rest of the team back. Ryan then moved out of state, Burbank injured her knee in soccer and two others chose not to play. That leaves Rolbiecki as the lone returning starter. Mt. Abram has seven freshmen that will see plenty of action. Some will likely see starting time. Lisherness says this is one of the youngest groups he’s started a year with, but the freshmen group is also one of the most promising he’s seen.
Coach’s comment: “I graduated one senior and then still only have one of my starting five back. We’re a little younger this year than I thought we would be. I can’t rememeber the last time I said it was going to be a rebuilding year.” – Coach Doug Lisherness
