Boys’ Basketball
Coach: Jim Bessey (34th year)
Last year’s record: 15-6, lost in Eastern A semifinals
Returning letter winners: Seniors -Jordan Hoyt (6-1  forward), Ryan Backus (6-3 forward), Seth Berry (5-10 guard), Jake Malone (5-10 guard); Junior – Adam Wiles-Russell (6-4 center); Sophomores – Eric Berry (5-11 guard), Cam Sennick (6-5 center).
Key losses: Ben Russell (guard), Jamie Sawyer (guard), Andrew Trask (forward), Devin Zamboni (forward), Sean Simpson (forward), Mike Cormier (center).
Promising newcomers: Junior – Dom Clements (5-10 guard); Sophomores – Steve Yardley (6-0 forward/guard), Blake Hart (6-0 forward), Dustin James (5-11 guard), Dustin Zamboni (6-4 center).
Outlook: The Cougars have been a perimeter-oriented team relying on the talents of Russell and Sawyer. Now the post is the most. Backus and Sennick started last year and Wiles-Russell saw extensive minutes. The key will be developing a new starting backcourt. Bessey thinks Eric Berry can fill the void at the point. If they can make the transition, the Cougars should compete for a tournament spot from the rugged KVAC North.
Coach’s comment:
“I think our offense will be more balanced this year. We certainly hope to ge the ball into our post players more than in the past.”
