Returning letter winners: Seniors -Brittany Michaud (5-6 guard), Celeste Knowles (5-7 guard), Sara Sands (5-6 guard), Stephanie Spaulding (5-3 guard), Kim Wallingford (5-6 forward); Junior – Cassie Mocciola (5-7 guard).
Key losses: Alexa Doyer (guard)
Promising newcomers: Senior – Maria Lundberg (5-9 forward); Junior – Morgan Copp (5-8 guard); Sophomore – Katrina Seeley (5-5 guard); Freshmen – Kayla Yirrell (5-11 center), Emma Turton (5-6 guard), Sophie Spiller (5-6 guard).
Outlook: The Knights were starting from scratch a year ago with a new coach and an inexperienced club. Now Poland is ready to take a step up with much of last year’s team back with experience. Morong has eight girls back that saw time in last year’s injury-plagued campaign. Knowles missed 14 games and is a key returnee while Copp should be a force in the backcourt as well after a year off. Lundberg and Yirrell give the Knights two post players that could made a difference. The team is evolving and the defense is getting better. Poland can see the improvement already and hopes it shows on the court.
Coach’s comment: “The girls have really bought into what we are trying to do and where we are trying to go. We went 0-18 last year. So we will be overlooked. That’s exactly what we want because we will be ready to bring it every night.” – Coach Andrew Morong.
