Eva Giles reads the “Queen of Christmas” to Chris Curtis, 3, of Auburn during the Holiday Festival for Children at St. Dominic Regional High School in Auburn on Saturday. Giles, the director of Lewiston Adult Education, and her 11-year-old daughter, Olivia, center, read books for Ready … Read!, one of the 14 community organizations that participated in the 24th annual festival. Ready … Read! is a cooperative effort of Lewiston and Auburn public schools to encourage parents and their preschool children to read together for 20 minutes every day. The festival is the largest fundraiser for Advocates for Children, said event organizer Ruth DeCoster.
