WILTON — Santa’s Workshop, an opportunity for children to Christmas shop for their parents, is planned for Saturday, Dec. 12, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. The workshop is open from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church at School and High streets.

Realizing how many children don’t have the funds to shop in regular stores, church members donate a variety of items, usually new or very gently used items, from which Wilton children can purchase presents for as little as 25 cents or as much as $1.

Church members help children shop while parents are offered coffee and doughnuts in the kitchen. Members wrap the items, a church representative said.

Items such as bath and shower products, blankets, slippers, coffee and tea kits or gift cards from Dunkin’ Donuts and McDonalds are donated. Proceeds from the sales are used the day after Christmas to purchase after-Christmas sale items for next year, she said.

Children are limited to two items, one for a man and one for a woman, from the dollar table. Tables are also set up for 75-cent, 50-cent and 25-cent items.

The church has offered the workshop for half a dozen years and gets a good response, she said.

A similar sale will also be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Phillips Community House.

The third annual Children’s Christmas shopping day takes place Dec. 12 offering area children an opportunity to shop for family and friends.

Shopper helpers will wrap the gifts and cashiers will make sure every child is able to buy the presents they choose. Most items are priced at $1 or less.

Adults accompanying the child will be welcomed in the kitchen area.

The sale is sponsored by the Phillips Shared Ministry Women.
