MONMOUTH – Monmouth jumped on Winthrop to grab a quick 14-point lead and never looked back in a 63-28 rout in an MVC boys’ basketball game Monday.
It is the first time in recent memory that Monmouth has beaten the Ramblers.
The Mustangs (1-1) led 20-6, 33-15 and 49-19 at the quarter breaks.
Robby Neal led Monmouth’s balanced attack with 15 points. Corey Dyke added 14 points, while Ryan Baillargeon and Elliott Kahl had 11 apiece.
Corey Staples led Winthrop (1-1) with nine points.
Livermore Falls 94, |Mt. Abram 41
SALEM – Senior guard Chandler White tossed a game-high 23 points to lead Livermore Falls to a 94-41 rout over Mt. Abram in MVC boys’ basektball action.
The Andies trekked upwards and onwards, hiking to new heights with each passing quarter. Senior guard Khyle Whittemore scored 15 points, while senior forward Tom Ventrella pitched in with 14 points.
The Andies outscored Mt. Abram 27-5 in the final frame.
Senior guard Jimmy Barker was at the helm for the Roadrunners, scoring 19 points.
Dirigo 77, Carrabec 42
NOTH ANSON – Senior guard Tyler Chiasson notched a commanding 18 points to lead Dirigo to a 77-42 triumph over Carrabec in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday.
The Cougars (2-0) put on an offensive show in the second quarter, stealing the ball at will, and posting a 37-10 margin en route to a 54-16 halftime lead. Senior guard Cliff Turner contributed 11 points for Dirigo.
Senior center Aaron Lane paced the Cobras (0-2) with five field goals and three free throws for 13 points.
Hall-Dale 54, St. Dom’s 42
AUBURN – Senior guard Ryan Leach posted 17 points as Hall-Dale exploded in the fourth quarter to upend St. Dom’s 54-42 in boys’ basketball action Monday.
The Saints (1-1) battled tough in the first half, trailing by two at the midpoint. Junior guard Kurt Johnson scored a team-high 14 points and senior guard Peter Keaney chipped in with 13 points.
The Bulldogs (2-0) turned a one-point deficit after three into an explosive final quarter, ripping everything apart in sight for a 23-10 run. Senior center Damian Melnicore contributed 10 points in the winning effort.
Boothbay 58, Lisbon 51, OT
LISBON – Senior guard Dan Dickinson scored a team-high 15 points to lead Boothbay to a 58-51 overtime victory over Lisbon in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday.
Tobey Harrington nailed the game-tying basket just before regulation to keep the Greyhound’s hopes alive. But, the Seahawks (2-0) came swooping down in overtime with a 10-3 margin for the win.
Senior forwards Biran Hubbard and Scott Alley recorded 10 and 14 points, respectively, for Boothbay. Senior guards Scott Eck and Chris Whitney posted 15 and 11 points for Lisbon (0-2) in the losing effort.
Girls’ basketball
Livermore Falls 47, Mt. Abram 32
SALEM – Livermore Falls took advantage of turnovers to pull away for a 47-32 victory over a young Mt. Abram team in an MVC girls’ basketball game.
The Andies led 20-17 at halftime before extending the advantage to 36-26 entering the final period.
Katherine Ventrella led the Andies with 10 points and Hannah Therrien added nine points.
Kylie Rolbiecki scored 10 points and added five steals to pace Mt. Abram (0-2). Miranda Smith grabbed eight rebounds for the Roadrunners.
Hockey
St. Dom’s 7, G-NG/Poland 3
HEBRON – Six different players scored a goal for St. Dom’s, led by a pair from Alex Parker, as the Saints stayed unbeaten in Class A hockey Monday night with a 7-3 victory over Gray-New Gloucester/Poland at Robinson Arena.
St, Dom’s (3-0) scored three goals in the first 4:15 of the opening period, then answered two goals by the Patriotic Knights with another three straight in the second and third stanzas.
Spencer Martin, Cody Rodrigue, Dakota Keene, Nate Bergeron and Kyle Holtet each scored for the Saints. Rodrigue added two assists. Holtet’s goal was short-handed.
Kolby Arnold scored twice for G-NG/Poland, including a goal with one second remaining in the first period to cut his team’s deficit to 3-2.
Ryan Davala scored an unassisted goal for the Patriotic Knights.
Josh Charest and Chris McIntyre shared net duties for St. Dom’s. Matthew Ouellette made 36 saves for the Patriotic Knights.
