WILTON — Two vehicles received extensive damage Monday in an early morning crash on Route 2 West, said Wilton police.

Matthew Allen, 51, of Wilton turned his 2000 Mercury Sable on to the eastbound lane of Route 2 in front of a vehicle driven by David Karkos, 69, also of Wilton, who was already driving his Buick LaSabre in the eastbound lane, Wilton Police officer Nicholas Oettinger said. Karkos ended up striking the Allen vehicle in the rear.

The 7:15 a.m. crash happened at the intersection of Route 2 and Maxwell Road/Main Street.

Passengers in Allen’s vehicle, Shelby Asseltine and Alexandra Allen, received bumps and bruises in the incident but were not transported, he said. The drivers were not hurt.

Both vehicles were probably totaled, Oettinger said. He estimated $7,000 to the Karkos vehicle and $10,000 to Allen’s. Dutch Gap Towing took Karkos vehicle from the scene and Collins Wrecker took Allen’s.

Wilton and East Dixfield fire departments responded to help at the scene, he said.
