ORONO – Elena Delle Donne dominated to the tune of 26 points and 12 rebounds and capped it with a buzzer-beater Tuesday night, giving Delaware the edge over Maine, 52-50, in women’s basketball at Alfond Arena.
Delle Donne, once the nation’s top-ranked recruit out of high school, hit three 3-pointers and was 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. She tied the game by hitting a 3-pointer with 45 seconds remaining to set up the go-ahead jumper at the horn.
Ariene Jenkins and Jocelyn Bailey each added seven points for the Blue Hens (4-3).
Maine (2-5) made only one of 18 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc and shot just under 32 percent overall. Katia Bratishko led the Black Bears with 14 points. Amanda Tewksbury notched 13 points and 12 rebounds. Kristin Baker dished out nine assists.
