NAPLES — A Gray man was killed Tuesday in a three-vehicle crash on Route 302 that closed the road to
traffic in both directions for several hours during the afternoon and
evening, authorities said.
Shannon B. Ronan, 44, a UPS driver, was killed in the crash, according to a written statement released Wednesday by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.
The accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Roosevelt Trail, also known as Route 302, in Naples. The crash involved three commercial vehicles, including a tractor-trailer carrying bulk propane. Route 302 from the intersection of Route 114 to Kansas Road was closed well into Tuesday night as crews worked to reconstruct the accident.
As of Wednesday morning, no charges were filed in connection with the accident.
A UPS delivery van driven by Ronan was traveling west on Roosevelt Trail and was stopped in traffic waiting to make a left turn. A bucket-type utility truck, also traveling west, apparently failed to stop and struck the delivery van from behind, forcing the delivery van into the eastbound lane. The delivery van was hit head-on by the tractor-trailer carrying bulk propane.
The driver of the Time Warner bucket truck was identified Wednesday as Michael Hanrahan, 43; of the tractor-trailer truck, Dewight Pickard, 54.
