RUMFORD — Oxford Federal Credit Union’s mascot, Monty Moose, visited children enrolled in the Head Start program in Rumford in November. Monty Moose brought along 60 scarves to donate to the children.
Credit union member June Weeks knitted and donated the scarves and credit union employee Kelly Henry arranged for Monty Moose to deliver the scarves to children at Chisholm Head Start, an affiliate of Community Concepts Inc. in Rumford.
“Credit Unions are about people helping people,” said Henry, “and it was important to make sure the scarves made with love went to people who would appreciate them, and the kids sure did.” She overheard one little girl say that “this scarf is gonna get the winter off my neck.”
“The children were so surprised when Monty Moose paid a visit. They welcomed him with hugs and many giggles,” said Michelle L. Sprague, site manager, Chisholm Head Start site. “They were pleased with the scarves and happily shared the news of their visitor with their parents when they arrived. We appreciate Oxford Federal Credit Union for thinking of Head Start and the scarf donation. All pre-school aged children were able to receive one.”
Monty Moose is the mascot for Oxford Federal Credit Union’s youth program for children ages 0 to 12. Children who are members can participate in the incentive for saving program, where each $5 deposit is rewarded with Monty Dollars that can be used to shop at the Monty Moose store located in the credit union lobby at both the Mexico and Norway locations.
