100 years ago, 1909

A robbery in which nearly $200 worth of goods were taken was made sometime late Saturday night or Sunday morning from the harness shop and leather goods store of George M. Fogg at 123 Main St. It is believed that the work was done by someone acquainted with the values of the goods for only the highest priced stuff was taken.

50 years ago, 1959

Lewiston’s Labbe twins, Ray and Bob, are polishing up their adjustment to senior hockey and hitting their groove for Lewiston’s Bakers at the eight-game mark entering this weekend’s games with Montreal Champetre Juniors, a Ranger farm club. The former St. Dom’s High aces completed college careers at Providence last spring. Ray has drawn a scoring blank in only one game, and Bob was denied a point on two occasions in the early games while putting up consistent two-way hockey.

25 years ago, 1984

In an attempt to ease traffic congestion on Lisbon Street, the Lewiston City Council Tuesday approved a new loading zone in front of L&A Grocers, despite the fears of one councilor that the zone won’t do any good.

The City Council approved creating a loading zone extending along Lower Lisbon Street from Birch Street approximately 170 feet south. But the council attached a 60-day trial period to the zone and asked the Police Department to prepare a report on its effectiveness.
