The Figure Eight car and the Lewiston-Waterville car were running so close together yesterday morning that when the Waterville car stopped on Pine Street near Park to take on a passenger, the Figure Eight car bumped into the rear of the other car. The dasher and panels of the Figure Eight car were smashed. The Figure Eight was in charge of conductor Robinson and motorman Doyle.
50 years ago, 1959
Lewiston and Auburn shoeworkers are due to get a pay raise the first of the new year.
Mark H. Burke, secretary of the Lewiston-Auburn Shoeworkers Protective Association, said contracts with local factories call for a 3 percent wage increase for piece workers and a three-cent hourly increase for hourly paid employees.
The wage increase becomes effective Jan. 1, 1960, according to Burke.
25 years ago, 1984
Anne Carro of Oxford has been named president of Lee Management Co. in Auburn, according to company chairman Shepard Lee.
Ms. Carro was promoted from executive vice president at the firm, which employs 20 people who provide management services to Lee’s six auto dealerships, leasing company and wholesale parts company.
She was hired as a sales secretary at Giant Advance in 1973 and was named Lee’s administrative assistant in 1974. She became vice president of Lee Management Co. when it was formed in 1976 and was promoted to general manager in 1977.
