Charles W. Clark Jr.
1922 – 2009

BRUNSWICK — Charles W. Clark Jr., 87, of Highland Road, Brunswick, died peacefully at his home in the company of family on Dec. 26.

He was born in Newark, N.J., on May 25, 1922, the only surviving son of Charles W. and Florence G. Clark. He grew up with his two sisters, Lillian and Doris, in East Orange, N.J., and graduated from East Orange High School in 1939. He attended Antioch College both prior to and after service in the U.S. Army during World War II. During the war he served as an enlisted man, and later as a second lieutenant of infantry, until he was wounded in action on March, 15, 1945, in Alsace, France.

He married Jean Perryman of Upper Montclair, N.J., on Oct. 20, 1945. After moving to Maine in 1950, he taught in a one-room school before becoming a dairy farmer. Later, he worked in the Federal Civil Service at the Navy Fuel Depot in Harpswell, and at the Brunswick Naval Air Station. In his later years, he served as an agent for National Life Insurance Company of Vermont, and as a registered representative of Equity Services, Inc., also of Vermont.

His innumerable and abiding interests included writing, photography, art and philosophy. He loved to be outdoors, particularly on his farm or among the mountains. Most of all, he loved being with his adoring family. Always he loved to give of himself in helping others.
