Leora ‘Lee’ Adams
1926 – 2010
AUBURN — Leora “Lee” (Pelletier) Adams lost her valiant battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, Jan. 3.
The daughter of John and Effie (Carney) Pelletier, Lee was born Aug. 22, 1936, in Masardis. After the death of her mother a few months later, she lived with her paternal grandparents, Amos and Susanne Pelletier in Eagle Lake, until she was five, when she was placed in the Marcotte Home for Girls in Lewiston.
After spending six years at Marcotte, she attended public schools in Mechanic Falls before going to work in her father’s Silver Dollar Diner in Lewiston, where she met and married David Adams in 1954. They divorced in 1956, and a few years later, she met Yvette Martin, her partner for the next 48 years. During their years together, she and Yvette lived in Rumford, where she worked at Bass Shoe and at Rumford Hospital for the last 15 years.
An avid reader of novels, she was also known for her culinary skills, affection for her dogs, and her willingness to provide a helping hand to her many friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her partner, Yvette Martin; Yvette’s daughters, Kathy Martin, Susan Voter and Kim Sanborn; as well as her brother, Jack Pelletier of Shasta Lake, Calif.; nephews, Jon and Joshua Pelletier; and a niece, Jeannine Pelletier, all from Sacramento, Calif.
