RUMFORD — A baby bottle melting in a pan on the stove prompted several fire engines and more than a dozen firefighters from two departments to respond to an emergency call Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy Fire Chief Richard Coulombe said smoke was in the house at 340 Swain Road caused by the melting bottle. The home is owned by Jeff Dayon.

Fire Chief Bob Chase said the daughter was awakened by the sound of the fire alarm going off. She immediately called the fire department. He said the incident caused no damage.

In addition to the Rumford Fire Department, the Mexico Fire Department and Med-Care Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
