LEWISTON — A city man was treated for an apparent head laceration at a local hospital after he was hit by a passing motorist Wednesday around noon, police said.
Aaron Rand, 33, of Park Street walked into busy traffic on Lincoln Street and was struck by a Saturn sedan driven by Larry Martin, 67, of Randolph, N.H.
Martin was eastbound on Lincoln Street, officer Justin Kittredge said. Rand left a bank on Lincoln Street and was not in a crosswalk when he was struck. He was taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center.
No citation was issued, Kittredge said. Speed was not an issue, he said.
Rand was lying conscious in the westbound lane, covered by a quilt until he was loaded into an ambulance. At one point, he was talking on a cell phone as he was lying in the street. The windshield of the car driven by Martin was broken.
Rand was lucky to have escaped relatively unharmed, Kittredge said.
