Arthur B. Andrews of Auburn has an article in the January number of the Popular Astronomy. He is at present using two telescopes and has not only made good photography of the recent eclipse of the moon with them, but has been able to pick up Halley’s comet.
50 years ago, 1960
Some 65 communicable diseases were reported in the Twin Cities for the week ending Jan. 9, largely as a result of a jump in the number of youths contracting childhood diseases.
According to the weekly bulletin of the State Health Bureau, Auburn reported 38 cases while Lewiston had 27. The Auburn diseases included 25 chickenpox cases, 12 measles cases and one case of nasopharyngitis.
Lewiston reported 14 cases of chickenpox, 10 of whooping cough and three of German measles.

“So You Think You Know Maine” begins its new season with a new host, Tim Sample, airing for the first time Thursday at 8:30 p.m. on WCBB-TV, Lewiston.
Designed as a quiz program to test Maine people’s knowledge of their own state, the show was introduced Nov. 11, 1975, as a contribution to the nation’s Bicentennial Celebration, and was the first of its kind in the country.
Sample is a member of the touring program of the Maine State Commission on the Arts and Humanities and frequently gives workshops and performances for students throughout Maine.
