Sibyl L. Fotter
1906 – 2010

BINGHAM — Sibyl Lillian Fotter, 103, of Bingham, passed away Jan. 18, at Somerset Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born April 26, 1906, in Flagstaff, the daughter of Joseph M. and Lena (Brackett) Myers. She attended Flagstaff and Stratton schools, before attending Central Maine General Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1926. She married Lewis Fotter on Nov. 17, 1947 in Kingfield and Lewis passed away Nov. 19, 1986.

She worked as a health officer for the town of Eustis from 1958 to 1996, although in her own mind she never really retired and continued working at the nursing home that cared for her. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Stratton, the Pythian Sisters, Past Chiefs Club and the Health Council of Stratton (later known as Mt. Bigelow Health Association). She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, loved flowers and gardening and enjoyed cooking for her family for the holidays.

She is survived by her son, Willis M. Smart and his wife, Anna B., of Cornish; a daughter-in-law, Joan Smart of Scarborough; five grandchildren, Robert Smart and his wife, Pam, Bryan Smart and his wife, Terry, Jerry Smart and his wife, Margarite and Robyn Oliver and her husband, Steve; eight great-grandchildren, Sean, Whitney, Kelsey, Griffin, McKenzie, Connor, Callaghan and Caoimhe; and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis; and her son, Robert.
