On Jan. 17, President Barack Obama came to Massachusetts to stump for the fast-fading Martha Coakley in her bid for the U.S. Senate seat from Massachusetts (not, as the Sun Journal put it, “the Kennedy seat”). Speaking in front of a group of students at a private school, he said, in mocking reference to (then) candidate Scott Brown’s using a Ford F-150 pickup as his campaign vehicle: “Forget the ads. Everybody can run slick ads. Forget the truck. Everybody can buy a truck.”
There’s a man of the people.
A few days after the election, Obama made the statement, “The same thing that swept Scott Brown into office swept me into office.” If he had stopped there, all would have been well, but he couldn’t leave well enough alone. He added: “People are angry and they are frustrated, not because of what’s happened in the last year or two years, but what’s happened over the last eight years.”
In other words — people are still so angry at former President George W. Bush that they elected a Republican to take the Senate seat (in a state that went for him by 26 points in 2008) that had been held by either a member of the Kennedy family or a Kennedy family surrogate for 57 years.
How dumb does he think we are?
