Gould 59, Pine Tree 39

BETHEL — Junior forward Taylor Peck-Moad tossed a convincing 20 points to lead Gould to a 59-39 victory over Pine Tree Academy in boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Huskies (5-9) had worked their way to a conservative 23-21 lead at the half. But, Gould applied some full court pressure in the third quarter to deliver a crushing blow and advance their lead on a 32-5 run.

Junior forward Will Bunge provided 10 of his 17 game points in the third quarter. Peck-Moad posted 10 of his 20 game points in the frame as well.

Freshman guard Tim McGuire recorded a game-high 23 points for the Breakers (1-12) in the losing effort.

Girls’ basketball

Livermore Falls 43, Boothbay 23

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Sophomore guard Kathryn Ventrella scored a team-high 14 points to lead Livermore Falls to a comfortable 43-23 victory over Boothbay in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Andies (12-4) held the Seahawks (2-14) to 10 points over the first three quarters. Junior forward Marissa Welch hauled down a team-leading nine rebounds to go along with her 11 points.

Sophomore guard Ann Andrews led Boothbay with eight points on two field goals and four from the charity stripe.

Dirigo 60, Wiscasset 21

WISCASSET — Senior guard Ricki Sinclair posted four field goals from 3-point range in a balanced attack as Dirigo cruised to a 60-21 victory over Wiscasset in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Cougars (11-5) were tough on defense, keeping the Redskins (2-14) to single-digit scoring in all but the third quarter. Senior center forward Morgan Hutchins shared a game-high 12 points, while sophomore guard Paige Murphy and junior forward Hannah Knight added 10 points apiece. Knight also recorded a game-high nine rebounds.

Junior guard Allie Johnson led the Redskins with a team-high eight points on two field goals and four from the free throw line.

Lewiston 11, Yarmouth 2

YARMOUTH — Junior left wing Sara Marden and freshman right wing Natalie Rousseau each scored a hat trick to power Lewiston to an 11-2 victory over Yarmouth in girls’ ice hockey action Saturday.

The Blue Devils had 10 unanswered goals before Courtney Barker put the Clippers on the board.

Freshman Katherine Anthoine tallied the first goal of her carrier to put Lewiston up 2-0 in the first period.

Goalie Caitlynn Cyr made 16 saves for Yarmouth, while Sarah Turner and Brianna Lajoie combined for nine saves for Lewiston in the winning effort.

Rangeley 40, Calvary Christian 36

ORRINGTON — Eric White scored 10 points and Rangeley held Calvary Christian to just four points as the Lakers drifted away with a 40-36 victory in a boys’ basketball game Saturday.

The Sabers built a 19-18 lead at halftime before the Lakers’ defense swung into action in that stifling third quarter.

For Calvary, Colby Downs dropped in 12 points.

Edward Little 68, Morse 38

AUBURN – Bo Leary dominated play scoring 27 points and hauling down 16 rebounds to lead Edward Little to a 68-38 ttiumph over Morse in a KVAC boys’ basketball game Saturday.

The Red Eddies (14-2) jumped out to a 21-13 advantage after one quarter and extended the margin to 34-22 and 53-26 after the middle two frames.

Leary’s all-around performance also included four assists. James Philbrook chipped in with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Alonzo James scored 19 points to lead Morse (6-10).
