AUBURN — Authorities in Auburn are investigating a Saturday night crash on outer Broad Street that claimed the life of one Auburn woman and sent another to an area hospital.
Joanne Polvinen, 59, of Auburn, died instantly in the 10:33 p.m. accident, according to a press release issued Sunday by the Auburn Police Department. Polvinen was southbound on Broad Street between Mill Street and South Witham Road when the 2000 Chevrolet sedan she was driving crossed the center line and hit a northbound 2006 Volkswagen driven by Xiaoying Zhang, 28, of Auburn.
Zhang was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where she was listed in satisfactory condition, according to police.
There were no passengers in either vehicle. The crash remains under investigation, and authorities in Auburn are being assisted by an accident reconstructionist from Lewiston Police Department.
