LEWISTON — One man was arrested and another taken to a local hospital after a Monday night argument that led to a stabbing at a Hillside Lane home.

Jeremy Shane Wilbur, 28, of 16 Hillside Lane No. 1, was arrested at 11 a.m. Tuesday and charged with one count of aggravated assault. A corrections officer at Androscoggin County Jail said Wilbur posted the $260 bail and was released later that day.

The victim, Carey Mathis, 43, of 129 Oak St., was treated and released from Central Maine Medical Center on Monday night, according to a nursing supervisor.

Lt. Mark Watson of the Lewiston Police Department said the incident was reported at 8:17 p.m. Monday. Watson said Wilbur was arguing with another man, Donald Wilbur, 58, also of 16 Hillside Lane, when Mathis attempted to step in and break it up. At some point, Jeremy Wilbur pulled a knife and stabbed Mathis in the arm.

Watson said the altercation was alcohol-related. He said it was unclear whether the Wilburs were related.
