WILTON — A worldwide customer service organization based in Tampa, Fla., merged with ICT Group this week.

The local ICT center, located in the Nichols Building in the former G.H. Bass corporate offices on the Weld Road, will change its name to Sykes Enterprises Inc. Decisions are still being made as to what the merger will mean for various offices, said Andrea Burnett, Sykes director of corporate communications on Wednesday.

ICT shareholders approved the merger on Tuesday, Feb. 2, she said. The ICT Group was formerly headquartered in Newton, Pa.

Employees were to learn some details about the merger on Wednesday but the company wants to be thoughtful and deliberate during the merger, she said.

“We’ll communicate as much as we can today to employees then provide updates,” she said.

The ICT Group opened the telemarketing service in Wilton in early 1999 with an intent to provide support for insurance and financial clients.

“Sykes is very similar to ICT, one of the reasons for the merger. Our similarity and cultures make the merger a good fit,” Burnett said. “The merger is an opportunity for growth.”

With over 30 years experience, Sykes Enterprises, with 51,000 employees in 24 countries and 80-plus call centers, provides a variety of services for clients but its main focus is financial, communications and technology, she said.

Its main objective is customer care via phone, text or online chats, whatever helps customers, for the companies that are its clients, she said. The majority of the work is done with inbound calls or online.

For the next couple weeks, the phone in Wilton will be answered, “Sykes, formerly ICT,” before the name is changed to Sykes, she said.
