WILTON — The newly formed Street Light Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the town office.
“The public is welcome to attend,” said Terry Brann, chairman of the Board of Selectmen.
With a total current street-lighting budget of more than $51,000, the town is looking to assess the need for 311 street lights. Public input is welcome as the committee addresses the possibility of turning off some lights or reducing wattage, he said.
Potential savings from just turning off 10 lights would be $1,500 because each light costs the town $150 annually, Town Manager Rhonda Irish previously told the board.
The town’s current budget includes $48,197 for street lights; $2,500 for the ornamental downtown lights and $500 for traffic lights. The total budget tallies $51,197, a figure that Brann thinks could be reduced because some lights may not be needed.
Last month the board appointed committee members to serve with Brann. Those include Sherrill Brann, Paul Gooch and Edna Montague.
