Sidney Dayton Rogers
1913 – 2010
PALM COAST, Fla. — Sidney Dayton Rogers, 96, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Auburn, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at his residence.
He was born on July 26, 1913, in Greenville Junction, to the late Charles Hancock Rogers and Mela Boucher Rogers. He married Barbara Sinclair Rogers on May 18, 1947 in Auburn. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in 2009.
He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1932. Sid worked at Bath Iron Works in Bath, and Portsmouth, N.H., before he enlisted in the Army and served in the engineers in the Pacific Theater of Operations in the Philippines and Japan until 1946.
After their marriage in 1947, he and Barbara operated “Light House Inn” in East Winthrop, and later he worked as a salesman of Building Supplies, retiring from Acme Dunham, in Bangor, at the age of 65.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed following his grandsons, Scott and Andy, during their LA travel hockey games and later at Edward Little High School, and enjoying summers with Nick and Chris on Frye Island. He was a member of Prospect Hill Golf Course in Auburn and a fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots.
After his retirement, several months each winter were spent in Florida. He was a member of Kora Temple Shrine in Lewiston, (63 years in 2009) and he was a lifetime member of the Ashlar Lodge 105 in Auburn. In 2005, he and Barbara moved to Palm Coast to be near their children.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Lynn and her husband, Daniel L’Heureux; his son, Sidney Jr. (Buddy) Rogers and his wife, Anne, all of Palm Coast; four grandsons, Scott Desgrosseilliers and his wife, Melissa of Chicago, Ill., Andrew Desgrosseilliers and his wife, Jimena, of Boynton Beach, Fla., Nicolas Rogers and his fiancée, Charity Collins, of Waltham, Mass., and Christopher Rogers of Palm Coast; his stepgrandson, Peter L’Heureux of Lewiston; his great-granddaughter, Mia Desgrosseilliers of Boynton Beach, Fla.; his nieces, Beverly Rogers Preble, Geraldine Rogers Callahan, Sheila Wakefield Ray and Nanci Wakefield Bartlett; and three nephews, John, James and Jay Wakefield.
He was predeceased by his sister, Geraldine Rogers Simpson; and his three brothers, Gerald, Kenneth and Charles Jr.
