LEWISTON — The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will participate in Spay Day USA, a national campaign for the Humane Society of the United States, to promote the life-saving benefits of spay/neuter. Dr. Stephen Kinney will host his third Spay Day USA low-cost feline spay/neuter event at the humane society on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

“Spay/neuter protects pet health, improves pet behavior and lessens the burden on animal shelters and taxpayers” said Kinney. He invites low-income pet owners who’s cats and kittens are in need of spaying or neutering to contact the shelter at 783-2311 for more information and to learn if they qualify for the program.

This year marks the 16th annual Spay Day and the shelter staff invite the community to stop by and join them in honoring Spay Day with refreshments and prizes, including one free cat spay and one free cat neuter.

Since Spay Day’s inception in 1995, participants have altered an estimated 1,418,500 animals.
