A few years ago, when new sidewalks were being built in New Auburn,
there was no possible way into my business for one of my disabled
clients. A few men from Auburn Public Works saw her disappointment and
told her to sit on her walker. They picked her up, walker and all, and
carried her across planks and up the stairs into my salon for her
appointment. When she was finished, they carried her out and into her
car.

That was beyond their call of duty.

There are many people who complain about services provided by the
city. Some never realize that while they are enjoying the warmth and
comfort of their homes, others have to leave their warm and comfortable
homes to plow and do whatever it takes to ready the roads so others can
get to work. They do this at all hours; on Christmas Eve, Christmas,
New Year’s Eve — whenever the snow or rain calls them in.

Then comes snow removal.

I’ve often waited in traffic for trucks being filled with snow, and
I have observed some obscene gestures being hand-delivered from open
vehicle windows.

I recently spoke to an official at the Auburn Public Works
Department about snow problems in New Auburn. They were taken care of.

I thank the people of the Auburn Public Works Department for all they do.
