FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District’s spring trout restocking program is underway.
Those who place trout orders by Wednesday, March 31, will have discounts of up to nine percent taken off. In addition, all orders of $250 or more will receive another five percent off the trout order. A minimum order of 34 brook trout must be placed.
The hatchery has both five- to six-inch and six- to seven-inch brook trout available for a May delivery.
Rainbow trout are also available. The rainbows will be offered in sizes from four- to five-inches through seven- to eight-inches. Larger trout may be available upon request. The hatchery requires a minimum order of $50 with no discounts at this time.
An order form and a copy of the stocking permit must be sent to Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District, 107
Park St., Farmington, ME 04938, along with the check or money order to reserve the trout.
By request, gallon bottles of Clear Pond are for sale, to eliminate and keep algae out of a pond, as well as bags of fresh fish pellets. Call for prices and availability.
For those who would like information on building a pond or those with ponds that needs maintenance, a pond construction and maintenance seminar will be offered at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 10. It will be held in the Park Street conference room.
Experts from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will present ideas, provide handouts and answer questions. For a registration form, call 778-4279, stop by the office or go to www.franklincswcd.org.
