Elaine Graham (Feb. 11) rides again as she continues her campaign against the existence of our nation’s homosexual community. Graham derides Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Michael Mullen’s
rather conciliatory statement regarding our nation’s homosexual citizens
serving openly in the military, while bemoaning former chairman Gen.
Peter Pace’s ouster for his comment that “homosexual acts are immoral.”
Had Graham done a little research, she’d realize that
Pace was not nominated to a second term as chairman by then-Secretary
of Defense Robert Gates. Gates was appointed by President Bush — a
Republican and conservative Christian at that. The current chairman was
appointed by the Bush administration, as well, and remains, serving under
President Obama.
It seems to me unlikely that Pace was
“ousted” from his position because of comments he made about
homosexuality. As well, it seems unlikely that Mullen will, either.
Accurately,
Graham points out that honesty (no matter which side you take) may get
you in a great deal of trouble, and both Mullen and Pace should be at
least respected for that. But clearly, Graham cannot be.
I
suggest that she do more careful research before she begins
extrapolating facts from the atmosphere. By doing so, her arguments may
be more compelling. But as they are now, and probably shall be in
the future, they remain tiresome and shrill.
