AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A Maine conservative think tank is launching a Web site that takes a close look at spending in the state’s schools.

The Maine Heritage Policy Center’s site, GreatSchoolsForME.org, provides spending breakdowns as well as performance and parent reviews. It also shows whether towns gives parents a choice on which high school their kids can attend.

The Portland-based Heritage Policy Center has another Web site, MaineOpenGov.org, which provides information on state spending in a searchable format.

The center’s Stephen Bowen says the GreatSchoolsForME gets its spending breakdowns from information districts must file with the state Department of Education.
