AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Now that states to the south have gotten their share of snow, northern New England is due for a taste of winter — just as the ground was getting bare in many spots.

The National Weather Service is posting winter storm watches for southern New Hampshire and southwestern Maine for Tuesday and Tuesday evening. Forecasters say there’s also a strong chance of a few inches of snow in Vermont as well.

Tuesday’s snowfall won’t be the dumping places like Washington, Philadelphia and New York have gotten, but it’ll still be enough to remind northern New Englanders that winter hasn’t gone away.

The weather service says the snow will develop from southwest Tuesday morning before getting heavier in time for the evening commute. Parts of southern New Hampshire and southwest Maine could see 6 inches or more of snow.
