WESTBROOK, Maine (AP) — The former fire chief in Westbrook is threatening to sue the city, claiming his firing violated the city charter.

An attorney for Former Chief Daniel Brock says Westbrook Mayor Colleen Hilton fired Brock without the support of the city council.

Brock’s attorney Barbara Goodwin says Brock is willing to drop legal action if the city pays him four-and-a-half years of salary and benefits, through his planned retirement at age 66.

The Portland Press Herald estimates Brock’s request would cost about $333,000.

When Hilton took office Jan. 4 she said she wouldn’t be reappointing Brock as a way to improve the conduct and behavior of fire and rescue personnel.

The department has been beset with sexual harassment complaints.
