Board: Sabattus selectmen
Met: Tuesday night

Martin’s Point
Issue: On April 6, selectmen will hold a public hearing on a proposed ordinance change to Martin’s Point. As part of the change, the point and its boat launch wouldn’t be restricted to residents and guests.

The scoop: If no one objects, that change will go before voters at town meeting in May.

Up next: Without use restrictions, the town can pursue state grant money to fix the floats, docks and gravel — repairs estimated at $43,000 by Public Works Director Alan LeBlanc.

Dear John

Issue: Selectmen voted unanimously to send letters to State Rep. Stacy Dostie and State Sen. John Nutting on Wednesday.

The scoop: According to the letters, the town is already facing a drop in state revenue sharing dollars that equal 16 cents on the tax rate. Another proposed reduction would drop it by another 17 cents. The impact on the average Sabattus home: another $32.17 in taxes.

Keep in mind

Issue: Sabattus is having a special town meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Sabattus Central School to ask townspeople to move funds from one account to another. Afterward, at 7:30 p.m., there will be a meeting to discuss local school reorganization and a reduction in state aid.

Issue: As part of a new policy, the Recreation Club will maintain a list of groups already approved to use the community room of the town office. New requesters have to get in early — the club will only approve requests once a month at its regular meetings. Requests will still go through the front office.
