NORWAY — Two men were arrested Tuesday on charges that they sold marijuana from their apartments.
Merle E. Lang, 50, of Lynn Street and Matthew R. Varnerin, 21, of Main Street, were charged with aggravated furnishing of marijuana. Neither man was at the Oxford County Jail as of Thursday morning.
Officer Theron Bickford of the Norway Police Department said the men’s sales were unrelated. The arrests followed an investigation that took place over several months.
“We were able to conclude that both parties were selling marijuana from their residence,” Bickford said.
Drug paraphernalia and a usable amount of marijuana were seized during one of the arrests, he said. The charges are aggravated because both residences are within 1,000 feet of Guy E. Rowe Elementary School.
Bickford said both Lang and Vernerin sold marijuana to undercover agents. He credited the entire Norway Police Department for their work on the cases.
“We’re a team effort over here,” he said.
