Eileen E. Bates

1922 – 2010

LEWISTON- Eileen Elizabeth Bates, 88, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Feb. 27, with her daughters by her side.

She was born in Lewiston on Jan. 26, 1922, to Dwight and Theresa Spencer Goss. After graduating Lewiston High School, she met the love of her life, Ronald, a sailor in the British Navy, they later married and raised five children together. Eileen worked as a telephone operator until the birth of her children. While raising her family, she worked at Bell Manufacturing and later enjoyed a fulfilling career as a CNA in the intensive care unit at Central Maine Medical Center. She was known for her warm smile and her kind and gentle heart. Her favorite pastimes were reading and spending time with her family, especially her 10 grandchildren.

Eileen is survived by her loving son, Thomas, of Lewiston; and three daughters, Barbara Witham and husband, Charlie, of Greene, Katherine Roy and husband, Robert, of Bailey Island and Victoria Ballard and husband, Rick, of Leeds; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Pacios and companion, Wade Clukey, Jennifer Martin and husband, Christopher, Rhonda Clukey, Ronald Clukey, Sarah Roy, Laura Kibort and husband, Charles, Jana Mates and husband, Brad, Jill Pichette and husband, David, Trisha Raymond and Bridey Ballard and fiancé, Thomas Kennedy; five great-grandchildren, Charlie Barton, Josh Clukey, Hailey and Megan Martin, Emma Pichette, and soon to be born, Tyler Mates; her sister, Rose Warren; and niece, Mary Gravel and husband, Dick.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald; and daughter, Judith Pacios.

The family thanks Dr. Betty Kennedy, Dr. Maria Ikossi and Dr. Amir Modarressi, the nurses and staff of C2 and ICU at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, as well as her wonderful and loving caregivers, Ron Ouellette, Donna, Susie and Pat, and her “chauffeur,” George Berube.
