It is understood that at least one fire insurance company has notified its Lewiston agent not to write any more policies on Lisbon Street and that several companies have notified their agents not to take over a certain amount of insurance in this city. This action has been taken because of the heavy fire losses the past winter.

50 years ago, 1960

Only three Leap Year babies were born in the Twin Cities yesterday. The three are a boy born to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rybeck of 43 West Bates St. and a girl born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fox of 118 Spring St., both at Central Maine General Hospital. The other was a girl born to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gahagan of 106 Webber Ave. at St Mary’s General Hospital.

25 years ago, 1985

The Auburn Planning Board on Thursday night voted to recommend to the City Council that the land between Fletcher and Merrow roads be rezoned from general business to industrial. That is essentially what a petition from a group of developers had requested so that an industrial park could be built in that area.
