PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Husson College’s proposal to create the state’s second law school has been stymied again by the Maine supreme court.
For a second time, the Supreme Judicial Court on Thursday denied Husson’s request to let its graduates take the Maine bar exam. The justices wrote that the school has the same obstacles now as it did in its 2007 application: It doesn’t plan to seek American Bar Association accreditation and it hasn’t yet opened its doors.
Husson President Robert Clark says the college will review its options and consult with its board next month.
Husson had appointed three law school professors and had hoped to begin classes this fall. Maine now has one law school, the University of Maine School of Law, located in Portland.
