WINTHROP — The Maine Community Foundation and the Joseph W. Mayo ALS Scholarship Committee has announced that the following local high school graduates have received spring semester scholarships:
Amber Duguay of Mexico and the University of Maine at Farmington and Ashley Duguay of Mexico and the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
The program, administered by the Maine Community Foundation, has provided more than $31,000 in scholarships since 2003. Eligibility is limited to Maine high school or GED graduates who are children, stepchildren, grandchildren, spouses and domestic partners of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients enrolled in two-year, four-year or graduate college programs.
Application forms can be downloaded at www.mainecf.org. The deadline for consideration for the next round of awards is May 1.
The program recognizes the contributions of Joseph Mayo, former clerk of the Maine House, as a father, friend and public servant. Mayo, of Thomaston and Augusta, was stricken with ALS in 2000.
