LEWISTON — Sandcastle Clinical and Educational Services will begin using a sliding fee scale to bring charity care into their preschool classes.

Beginning March 1, the adjusted fee is based on household income and is similar to the tuition charged by Head Start for preschool classes. For instance, a family with a household income of $300 dollars a week would pay $4 a class, or $40 a week for full-time preschool, and a family with a household income of $1,000 a week would pay $11 a class, or $110 a week for full-time preschool classes.

The maximum rate and the amount a family would pay without the sliding fee scale would be $15 dollars a class. Families may enroll their children at any time.

Sandcastle provides preschool classes for children between 18 months and 5 years of age, and serves all children regardless of ability or disability. The two classes each day begin at 8:30 a.m. and noon, and children in preschool full-time can be enrolled from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily.

In addition, Sandcastle provides specialized educational instruction, speech-language pathology services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, mental health services and provides family support for children enrolled in care.

Sandcastle is located at 144 Howe St., and will be relocating in the fall to a new facility at 80 Strawberry Ave. For more information, contact Robert Baskett at 782-2150, or send e-mail inquiries to info@sandcastlepreschool.org.
