Marguerite G. Gallant Dufour

1924 – 2010

LEWISTON — Marguerite G. (Gallant) Dufour, “Maggie”, 85, of Livermore Falls, died Sunday, March 7, at Central Maine Medical Center, with her loving family at her side.

She was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Chisholm, a daughter of Felix and Josephine (Casey) Gallant. She was a graduate of Jay High School. While in high school, she was employed at Frechette’s; during World War II, she moved to Lewiston, where she worked at the Philip Elmet Co., filling artillery.

On May 25, 1946, she married Alfred Dufour at St. Rose of Lima Church, Jay. Early in their marriage, they moved to Gardner, Mass. While there, she was employed as a secretary at a furniture manufacturing company. When they returned to Livermore Falls to raise their family, she was employed at the Glove Shop in Livermore and later was a trainer in the meat department for all of the new Sampson’s Supermarkets throughout the state of Maine. She later was employed at Shop ‘n Save, Jay.

Maggie lived life to the fullest. She was true to herself and was faithful to her ideals. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, where she served as a eucharistic minister and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a devoted contributor to the Saints and Missions. She was a lifetime member of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Auxiliary Post and was a member of Seniors Plus. She always tended to the needs of others and spent much time taking folks to their appointments, visiting those who were “shut-ins” and volunteering her time and energy at the Victorian Villa Nursing Home in Canton.

In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and in her younger years had bowled on the Sampson Supermarket Team and with the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed shopping, camping at Dummer’s Beach in Weld, playing cards with family and friends, spending time with her family and traveling with her late husband, Alfred.

If you were privileged to be a friend of hers, you had a friend for life. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to be present and listen to those who put their trust in her.

She is survived by five children, Alfreda Fournier of Auburn, Paula Rackliff, Ronald Dufour and his wife, Mikayla and Philip Dufour and his wife, Jody, all of Jay and Craig Dufour of Livermore; two sisters, Marie LeBlanc and Irene Samson and her husband, Raymond, all of Jay; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alfred, on May 10, 1991; three of their children, twin son, Donald, Alfred “Monk” Jr. and Theresa Hamner, “Sarge”; her parents; and siblings, Annie, Celina, Josephine, Peter and Isadore “Pat.”
