LEWISTON — Androscoggin Bank announced the recipients of its Bank on Community ABCommunity grants.

In its inaugural year of the Bank on Community ABCommunity grant program, the bank will give away a total of $40,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations that support community activities in the arts, education, environment, health, social services, animal welfare and community development.

 The bank gave out the following grants:

Museum L-A — $5,000: In 1996, at the close of Lewiston’s bicentennial celebration, local attorney Elliott Epstein founded the Museum of Lewiston-Auburn in order to fulfill the bicentennial’s goal of creating a permanent memorial to local history. Museum L-A chronicles the history of work, industry and community in Lewiston and Auburn; serves as a community gathering place; creates engaging learning experiences; and contributes to the civic, cultural, and economic revitalization of Lewiston-Auburn.

Androscoggin Land Trust — $2,500: The Androscoggin Land Trust is a private, nonprofit, membership-supported organization dedicated to protecting the important natural areas, traditional landscapes and outdoor experience in the Androscoggin River watershed. In business since 1991, the trust currently conserves 3,600+ acres of land, including over nine miles of riverfront along the Androscoggin River.

 Camp Sunshine — $2,500: Located along the shores of Sebago Lake, Camp Sunshine supports children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. The camp has the distinction of being the only program in the nation whose mission is to address the impact of a life-threatening illness on every member of the immediate family – the ill child, the parents and the siblings. Since its inception, Camp Sunshine has been a safe haven for over 30,000 individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

 Oratorio Chorale — $1,000: Founded in 1974 by Bowdoin College alumnus and music scholar C. Russell Crosby, the Oratorio Chorale is an independent organization of singers looking to promote the choral arts in mid-coast Maine. The Chorale is a nonprofit organization that has been delighting audiences along the coast of Maine for more than 30 years with programs of music ranging from renaissance to the 20th century.
