Mary J. Martin

1924 – 2010

AUBURN — Mary J. Martin, 85, of Auburn passed away Sunday, March 14, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Lewiston, Nov. 11, 1924, a daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia Bennett Polisky.

She attended local schools until she began to work. She married the love of her life Rodolphe Martin on Nov. 11, 1943, and together they began their family. She worked in various shoe shops until her retirement in the mid 1970s.

She always enjoyed reading and writing. She loved to take walks around her neighborhood, enjoying the fresh air. She will be remembered for love of her family and especially her great-granddaughter, Maykayla.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Buck of Auburn and Darleen Verone and husband, Gregory, of Maryland; sisters, Delia Videto of Auburn and Katherine Surette of Rumford; four grandchildren, Steven Lagasse and wife, Tammy, of Sabattus, Brian Lagasse and significant other, Rana Raymond and her son Jacob of Madison, Katherine Verone of Maryland, and Emily Verone of Maryland; great-grandchildren, Scott Lagasse, Tyler Lagasse and Maykayla Cunningham; a special friend, Raelynn Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rodolphe, in 1974; a brother, Austin Polisky; and her sisters, Ann “Peggy” Polisky, Stella Simokaitis and Helen McLaughlin.

A special thanks to Crystal Guerrette for always being the guardian angel of her care, the staff of Central Maine Medical Center especially M-4, and the entire staff of the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their support and loving end of life care for Mary.
