Arthur W. Martineau

1927 – 2010

RUMFORD — Arthur W. Martineau, 83, of Mexico, died Monday, March 15, at the Rumford Community Home after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born in Rumford, Jan. 4, 1927, a son of Albert and Florence (Rodrique) Martineau. He was educated in Mexico schools.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946, and with the reserves from 1946 to 1954.

He was employed for 46 years with the former Oxford Paper Co. and worked building homes with Joe Metivier.

He was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and was a member of VFW Post 1641. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, oil painting, making lobster men, and spending time with his family. He was a carpenter and was proud of the homes and camps he built.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Doris M. (Richard) Martineau of Mexico; four sons, Frederick Martineau and companion, Nancy Delong, of Maxfield, Stephen Martineau and wife, Gesele, of Tolland, Conn., Randall Martineau of Mexico and Robert Martineau and wife, Kelly, of Norridgewock; a daughter, Donna RotFord and husband, David, of Mexico; eight grandchildren, Michael, Shane, Gabrielle, Adrianna, Brian, Jillian, Rachel and Jessica; two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Elliot; and two brothers, Edward Martineau of Bradenton, Fla., and Norman Martineau of Florida.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Yvonne McDonald and Lorette Tonilini; and two brothers, Louis Martineau and Edmond Martineau.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Rumford Community Home for the wonderful care given to Arthur and his family, and also the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
