Grow strawberries

FARMINGTON — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Franklin County Office, will offer a workshop on how to grow strawberries in a home garden from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 29, at the University of Maine at Farmington, Roberts 305, 270 Main St.

The workshop is for first-time strawberry growers or for anyone who would like to grow better berries. There is a $5 fee. To preregister, call 778-4650 or 1-800-287-1478.

Any person with a disability who needs accommodations for this program should contact the Franklin County office to discuss their needs at least 5 days in advance.

Grange meeting

JAY — The New Norlands Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the Androscoggin Bank conference room. The subjects for the program will be St. Patrick’s Day and Alaska. There will also be a guest speaker from Community Supported Agriculture and the public is invited to attend.

The Committee for Women’s Activities Chairwoman Cenereta Ward is urging all Grange members to bring their favorite sweet bread for the cook off. Refreshment will be served.

Chili, chowder

LIVERMORE FALLS — Local vendors will offer a taste of the best of Maine’s chili and chowder at the Great Chili Chowder Taste Off, to be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at Murray Hall, 69 Main St. Attendees will vote on the best chili and/or chowder of Androscoggin and Franklin counties.

First prize will win $200; second, $150; and third, $100. A cash bar and entertainment will be provided and there will be door prizes. Proceeds will benefit Maine’s Paper and Heritage Museum.

Early bird tickets are available for $12 from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 from 6 to 8 p.m. To buy tickets, call Sherry Judd at 897-3117 or visit Otis Federal Credit Union in Jay.
