Harriett A. MacDonald

1935 – 2010

AUBURN — Harriett A. MacDonald, 74, of Rumford, began her eternal journey Tuesday, March 23, at the Hospice House, with her family by her side.

She was born April 29, 1935, in Massachusetts, a daughter of Delores and Hazel (Frawley) Boutin. She received her education in Deerfield, N.H., schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she worked outside of the home at Montgomery Ward, Food Town, Save More, McDonald’s and for a brief time at Shop ‘N Save.

She was a former member of the Eagles, the Snowshoe Club, The American Legion and the Rumford VFW. She enjoyed eating out, baking, shopping, giving to many charities, and collecting butterflies. Of all of her interests and activities, being a mother and a grandmother topped the list. She was the biological mother of two, but a mother to all. She was the strongest and most loving person her family knew.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John ‘Norman’ MacDonald of Rumford; one son, Scotty MacDonald and his companion, Pammy Whittier, of Canton; one daughter, Jeanne MacDonald and her companion, Jim Austin, of Rumford; two brothers, Lionel Koss and his wife, Kay, of Lewiston and Clayton Boutin and his wife, Rosie, of California; a sister-in-law, Arita Zitoli of Rumford; three grandchildren, her pride and joy, Colin MacDonald, Gage Welch and Anthony MacDonald.

She was predeceased by six siblings, Marie, Claire, Lewis, Marilyn, Bobby and Jeanne.
